You, 2025: Building Confidence through Stretch Situations
If you’ve been a manager for several years or more, you might be tempted to think that confidence should come naturally, since you should know what you’re doing.
But in fact, research has shown that setting stretch goals–specific goals that are challenging, can increase an individual’s confidence by pushing them to achieve more than they thought they could. This leads to an increased sense of accomplishment. In other words, the more challenging the goal, the more committed people are to achidving it, resulting in a confidence boost when they do.
So, what the stretch goals that you can set for yourself this year as a leader and manager? How can you challenge yourself to learn a new way to support your team, to be better prepared for difficult conversations, to proactively address challenging aspects of your team culture that have stumped you for a while.
How will you feel when you achieve those goals?
And what support will you need to get there?
Now share this goal with a colleague or friend and ask them to keep you accountable to meeting it.
