Don’t let poor onboarding squander all the time & money you spent hiring!
Onboarding is often overlooked by managers and companies. But it is one of the most worthwhile investments you can make. Check out these stats from Zippia:
- It costs a little over $1,500 to onboard a new hire, on average
- Organizations with strong onboarding processes increase new hire retention by 82% and improve productivity by 70%.
- 88% of employees believe that their company doesn’t do a great job when it comes to onboarding new employees.
- 58% of organizations have onboarding programs that primarily involve processes and paperwork.
Onboarding preparations should happen when you begin the hiring process. You should begin
- Updating your onboarding manual
- Outlining the first 90 days of work, including clear goals
- Identifying a buddy to meet regularly with the new hire to orient them to the company
- As soon as the staff member is hired, work with IT to set up their email, etc., and then schedule key meetings for the first several weeks to ensure that they connect with the right people in the right sequence as they get acclimated.
There’s much more to the onboarding process, but done well, it can transform an employee’s experience and ensure that the investment you made in hiring an excellent employee will pay off.
