Two women talking

Are you thinking too much about yourself?

I once shared with a friend that I was hesitant to give feedback to one of my staff. She told me I was too focused on myself and too worried about my own feelings, and needed to think less about myself.

I realized that not knowing what to say or how to handle the feedback conversation with my staff made me think more about myself than the other person. Does this sound like you?

In order to be a great leader, whether you’re an entrepreneur or an executive, whether you’re leading a large company or a small team, it is critical to build your skills so that you can be more confident. The more confident you are, the less you’ll worry about yourself and the more you can focus on other people.

The more time you take avoiding investing in yourself to build the skills and tools to be able to be more confident in your decision-making skills, problem-solving skills, and ability to give and receive feedback, the more you’re allowing yourself to be selfish and worry about your lack of confidence.

You might think you’re being selfish investing in yourself by doing training, getting coaching, etc. But it actually will lead to less selfishness. Investing in yourself, going to management trainings, doing supervision effectively, doing hard things, will allow you to really focus on other people instead of worrying about your performance.
